Burj Khalifa: history, description and advantages

by marusia

Translated from Arabic, “burj” means “tower”. Initially, the skyscraper was named “Burj Dubai” – that is, “Dubai Tower”. It was changed on opening day. At the ceremony, the head of the emirate of Dubai said: “From now on and forever, the tower will bear the name of the Khalifa” (in honor of the President of the UAE, Khalifa Al Nahyan).

Tallest tower in the world

The height of Burj Khalifa is 828 meters. In 2010, the tower officially received the status of the tallest building on the planet. Dubai immediately attracted the attention of the whole world.

The UAE’s record did not please the Prince of Saudi Arabia. He immediately announced that his country would have a mile-high Burj Jeddah skyscraper (that is, 1.5 times taller than the Burj Khalifa). Later it turned out that the construction of such a tower was technically impossible. The estimated height of the skyscraper was reduced to 1 km. However, in 2018, construction stopped due to financial reasons.

As a result, the Dubai Tower remains the tallest building in the world. And it has no competitors in the foreseeable future.

The highest observation deck

The Burj Khalifa’s observation decks are the highest in the world. They offer the best views of Dubai and the Arabian Desert. The number of visitors at the observation decks is limited. Therefore, tourists have to queue first at the ticket office and then at the entrance
